I recently visited Camp Tamok with high expectations together with my wife, but unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We did an overnight stay with snow mobile and dog sledging tour at Camp Tamok. The tours and accommodations were not up to the standard one would expect, especially considering the premium pricing.
My review is relevant for you when you have been to the Arctic Circle before, are familiar with skiing in the Alps etc. If you are a tourist from Spain, India, China or any other place where you are not exposed to snow, mountains and the cold, you can go ahead and book with Norwegian travel. Read the other reviews – you will have a good time.
In total we spent around 1800 EUR for a 23-hour experience which in retrospect feels like a crazy hoax. The accommodation itself is double the price than some of the nicer hotels in Tromsö. The tours are more than double the price than similar tours in Seweden with a way better experience (= longer tours). Even when you want to go to Tromsö, you can find way cheaper (but most likely similar disappointing) tours by booking at a company that is not run via subcontractors.
Each activity is operated by a different contractor which creates a lot of chaos in the camp, creating a sense of disorganization among the guests and a total lack of accountability. A bus with 40 – 50 tourists will arrive every other hour and especially when you stay overnight, you will have the feeling that no one ever takes care about you. Our complaints were acknowledged or even agreed with but not addressed, leaving us feeling unheard. Only later I noticed that I complained at an employee of the Tromsö Ice Domes about the bad services of the French subcontractor that runs the dog Sledging who agreed with me.
If that isn’t enough to scare you away and you still think “there are so many good reviews and the dogs look soooo cute”, let me guide you through our experience:
Right after we arrived, we joined the snow mobile tour. The 16 km tour itself took around 40 minutes with my wife and myself each driving for around 20 minutes. When we were at the half point of the tour and the guide asked us to switch drivers, I first thought that he is joking… We just started and spent more time in the locker room than on track. The speed was 15 – 20 km/h most of the time and a top speed of around 30 km/h which made driving super boring. Even in this short time we drove in circles at multiple points along the track to extend the tour, but which made the tour even more boring. The worst part of the tour is that the narrow track is used by multiple tours daily and most of the track has deep ruts from all the previous tours. As a result, you can’t even actively steer the snow mobile there … The snow mobile will just follow the ruts of the 100s previous guests that made the same mistake and booked this tour with Norwegian travel like it was driving on rails.

Amazing staff, everyone is so friendly and professional. Feels like they’re only job is truly make us have a great experience. We tried the husky dog sled and had a wonderful time with those puppies. The weather was a bit rough, nothing compared to what it was in Tromsø. Also the traditional Norwegian lamb stew they served us for lunch was so delicious. I’ve been trying to get a recipe ever since. Will definitely be back.

Nice facility and the staff is nice. I’m sure the active stuff to do is fine, but do not recommend for the northern lights activity. If you get there and it’s overcast, you won’t see lights. Better to choose a bus tour that can drive around chasing the lights.

The team was very supportive since the booking until the departure from Camp Tamok. We experienced the dog sledding and unfortunately the Northen Lights was cancelled due the snow.
The thermal clothes was new and in a perfect conditions and all the gloves and boots was new.
Just for suggestion, I reccomend for the company to select the groups for the dog sledding based on the weight and physical conditions of the participants to try to keep the same rhythms during the tour.
