An unforgettable experience in Flåm, Norway!

Visiting Flåm with my family was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This small village nestled between towering fjords and lush mountains offers a peaceful and magical atmosphere.

Here’s what we loved and recommend:

🛤 Flåmsbana Railway:
The scenic train ride from Flåm to Myrdal is absolutely breathtaking. Waterfalls, steep mountains, and valleys everywhere. It’s not cheap (~600–700 NOK per person return), but it’s worth every krone for the views and the experience!

🚤 Fjord Cruise on Aurlandsfjord & Nærøyfjord:
We took a boat trip through the UNESCO-listed fjords, and it was a highlight. The narrow fjords, dramatic cliffs, and peaceful waters are unforgettable. Family-friendly and relaxing. Ticket prices were reasonable (around 400–500 NOK depending on the boat and season).

🚶‍♂️ Walking and Hiking Trails:
There are easy walks and some more challenging hikes. We did the Brekkefossen waterfall hike — moderate effort (30-45 minutes up) but incredible views from the top. Free and totally worth it!

🏛 Flåm Railway Museum:
A free museum where you learn about the history of the railway and the local area. Great for both adults and kids. Nice indoor stop if the weather turns rainy.

☕ Cafés and Restaurants:
Flåm has a few cozy spots. We loved the Flåm Bakery for fresh pastries and coffee — slightly pricey (typical for Norway), but the quality and vibe were excellent. We also had a nice dinner at Ægir BrewPub — beautiful Viking-inspired place with craft beers and hearty dishes. Not the cheapest (~300-400 NOK for a main), but a great treat.

🛍 Shops and Souvenirs:
Small souvenir stores with typical Norwegian gifts (sweaters, trolls, local crafts). Prices are high (as everywhere in Norway), but some good-quality items.

💰 Cost Effectiveness:
Overall, Flåm is not a “budget” destination, but it delivers amazing value for the price:
• Natural attractions (like hiking) are free.
• Major activities (train, fjord cruise) are expensive but 100% worthwhile.
• Dining out is pricey — we mixed restaurant meals with supermarket snacks to balance costs.

🚗 Tip:
If you’re driving, parking is easy and well-organized (around 150 NOK/day near the port).

I came in winter. Can’t imagine this place in Spring. It would be awesome. Anyway, it was still good. A short train trip with beautiful views. Most of the trip is in tunnels. There are sound directives like “Just after the tunnel, there is a 12 free falling waterfall on the left side”. Also, there is one stop near a big waterfall for taking photos.

플롬은 송네 피오르(Sognefjord)의 지류인 에울란 피오르(Aurlandsfjord) 안쪽 끝에 위치하고 있는 도시다. 플롬은 일찍이 1340년에 기록되었을 정도로 오래된 이름으로 고대 노르딕어(語)로 평평하고 탁 트인 땅이라는 뜻의 ‘flá’에서 유래하는데, 플롬강(江)의 범람원과 관련이 있다. 플롬항에는 RMS 퀸메리2호를 비롯해 1년에 131개의 크루즈 여행 배들이 들어온다. 플롬과 핀세(Finse)를 잇는 도로는 자전거 길로 인기가 있고, 오슬로와 베르겐을 연결하는 E16도로가 플롬을 지나간다. 이 곳에서는 피시스프등을 판매하는데 가격은 비싸지만 든든하니 좋다.
